How can we help?

Urinary Incontinence

You may be experiencing leaking of urine when coughing, sneezing, lifting weights or running. This can be due to the increased abdominal pressure during these activities and where your pelvic floor muscles are not strong enough to counteract this. We can help by assessing the strength of these muscles and providing you with a specifically tailored exercise program to strengthen them. This problem can occur in both women who have had children and those who have not.

Overactive Bladder

For a variety of reasons your bladder may become overactive. When this happens you may feel you need to pass urine more frequently and have a very strong urge to pass urine which can lead to incontinence (known as urge incontinence). There are many ways we can help reduce these feelings of urgency and needing to pass urine frequently. After completing a bladder diary we can look at your symptoms and give you strategies to help to change this and improve your symptoms. This can happen at any age and whether or not you have had children

Pelvic Pain

Some women suffer with pain in the pelvic region during pregnancy and whilst for the vast majority of ladies this goes away within 6 weeks of the baby being born the pain can persist for some. Exercises to strengthen the muscles that support the pelvis and to help restore the normal movement of the pelvis can be very helpful in reducing your pain and getting you back to doing what you love. This can be done safely during pregnancy as well as after birth and we can tailor the exercises to meet your unique needs.

Pregnancy Related Symptoms

We are very passionate about treating pregnant women. During pregnancy the body undergoes many changes in order to accommodate your growing baby and to prepare for labour. Your tummy muscles stretch and lengthen along with your pelvic floor muscles, your bladder gets compressed, your rib cage changes shape and your pelvis becomes more mobile. These changes can lead to problems such as urinary incontinence, back pain, pelvic girdle pain and rib pain. We are able to treat all of these problems to improve your symptoms and make your pregnancy more comfortable and enjoyable. We are also able to provide you with a personalised exercise program to help reduce the risk of these problems developing and to help you to be fit for labour and caring for your newborn. We will tailor the program to your needs as your pregnancy progresses so that you can get the best from your body.
