Movement MOT

Your body deserves a regular check-up, too.

Move well. Stay strong. Keep doing what you love.

You service your car to keep it running smoothly. You take your pet for regular health checks. But when did you last check how well your body moves?

At Omnia Physio, our Movement MOT is designed to help you understand how your body is functioning, identify areas that could benefit from attention and take proactive steps towards staying active and reducing the risk of injury or recurring problems.

You don't have to wait until something hurts to look after your body.

What is a Movement MOT?

A Movement MOT is a proactive, one-to-one appointment with an experienced Omnia physiotherapist.

Rather than focusing on a specific injury or painful area, we'll look at how your body moves and performs across a range of important physical functions.

We'll discuss your lifestyle, activity levels, previous injuries and personal goals before carrying out a series of relevant movement tests.

You'll leave with a personalised scorecard showing your current strengths, areas to keep an eye on and practical recommendations to help you keep moving well.

It's about understanding where you are now and what you can do to support your future movement and activity.

What do we look at?

Mobility

How freely can you move your joints through the ranges that matter for everyday life and your chosen activities?

Balance

How well can you maintain your stability? Balance is particularly important for confidence, physical activity and maintaining independence as we age.

Strength

Do you have the strength to support your daily activities, exercise and the things you enjoy doing?

Movement control

How well can you control your body's movements during relevant everyday tasks, exercise or sport?

Your individual goals

Your MOT isn't a one-size-fits-all checklist. We'll consider what's important to you, whether that's returning to running, playing golf, enjoying Pilates, keeping up with your grandchildren or remaining active and independent.

Your personal traffic-light scorecard

At the end of your appointment, you'll receive a personalised scorecard using a simple red, amber and green system.
Green
Looking good
You're meeting the agreed criteria for this area. Keep doing what you're doing.
Amber
Opportunity to improve
This area could benefit from some attention, targeted exercise or monitoring.
Red
Priority to improve
This area would benefit from further investigation, a more focused plan or appropriate clinical follow-up.
Your scorecard will help you understand where you're doing well and where a little targeted work could make a difference. Your physiotherapist will explain what your results mean and recommend practical next steps.

A scorecard is a snapshot of your current function, not a diagnosis or a guarantee that an injury will or won't occur.

Who is a Movement MOT for?

A Movement MOT could be right for you if you:

  • Have completed physiotherapy and want to check how you're progressing.
  • Have a history of recurring back, neck, shoulder, hip or knee problems.
  • Want to return to running, the gym or your favourite sport.
  • Enjoy Pilates or other exercise and want to understand where you could improve.
  • Want to maintain your strength, mobility and balance as you get older.
  • Are keen to stay active and independent for as long as possible.
  • Simply want a better understanding of how your body is moving.

Training for a race, or want your running looked at in detail? Our Runner's MOT is designed for that.

Do I need to be in pain?

Absolutely not. The Movement MOT is designed for people who want to be proactive about their physical health. You can feel perfectly well and still benefit from understanding your mobility, strength, balance and movement control.

If you're currently experiencing a new or worsening problem, a standard physiotherapy assessment may be more appropriate.

Is it the same as a physiotherapy assessment?

No. A standard physiotherapy assessment investigates a particular problem, such as pain, an injury or reduced function, and develops a treatment plan.

A Movement MOT takes a broader, preventative approach. It provides a structured overview of selected areas of physical function and helps you identify opportunities to maintain or improve them.

If your MOT identifies a concern that needs further assessment, your physiotherapist will explain the most appropriate next step.

What happens after my MOT?

You'll leave with your scorecard and individual recommendations. Depending on your results and goals, this might include exercises to work on independently, advice about your current training, a Pilates or strength programme, or a recommendation for further physiotherapy assessment where appropriate.

There's no expectation that everyone needs treatment. The aim is to help you make informed decisions about looking after your body.

How much does it cost?
