Runner's MOT

Run stronger. Move better. Keep doing what you love.

A smarter way to understand your running, optimise your movement and support your running goals.

Whether you're training for your first 5K, building towards a marathon or simply want to keep running comfortably for years to come, your body deserves the same attention as your training plan.

At Omnia Physio, our Runner's MOT gives you a detailed look at how you move, how you run and where you could make improvements. Combining physiotherapy expertise, movement testing and video gait analysis, we'll help you understand your body and identify practical ways to support your running.

You'll leave with a personalised Runner's MOT Action Plan, with clear, achievable recommendations tailored to you and your goals.

You service your car. What about your running body?

Running is brilliant for your physical and mental wellbeing, but it places repeated demands on your body. Over time, your strength, mobility, running technique and training load can all influence how well you tolerate those demands.

You don't need to wait until something hurts to take a closer look.

A Runner's MOT is an opportunity to understand your current strengths, identify areas that may benefit from attention and make informed decisions about your training.

Think of it as a proactive check-in for your running body, helping you stay one step ahead.

What is a Runner's MOT?

A Runner's MOT is a specialist, physiotherapist-led assessment designed around you, your running and your goals.

We look beyond your running shoes and weekly mileage to explore how your body moves and responds to the demands of running.

Through a combination of physical testing, movement assessment and video gait analysis, we'll identify areas of strength, opportunities for improvement and practical changes that may help you run more efficiently and manage training demands.

It's not about achieving a perfect running style or making everyone run the same way. Every runner is different. Our aim is to help you understand what matters for your body and your running.

What does your Runner's MOT include?

Understand your running goals

We'll start by discussing your running history, current training, previous injuries or recurring niggles, and what you want to achieve. Whether you're aiming for a new personal best, increasing your distance or simply running consistently without setbacks, your assessment will be tailored to your priorities.

Assess your mobility and joint range

We'll assess relevant joint movement and flexibility to understand whether restrictions may be influencing your running mechanics or your ability to tolerate training. Where appropriate, we'll identify areas where improving mobility could help you move more comfortably and effectively.

Test your strength and movement control

Running requires more than cardiovascular fitness. Your muscles and joints need to manage repeated loading, absorb forces and coordinate movement as you run. We'll assess relevant strength, balance and movement-control measures to identify areas that may benefit from targeted conditioning or improved control.

Analyse your running technique

Using video gait analysis, we'll observe your running pattern and help you understand key features of your technique. Depending on your needs, we may look at aspects such as cadence, stride pattern, foot contact, posture and lower-limb movement. We'll explain what we see, what may be relevant to your individual goals and where small, considered adjustments could be worth exploring. Not every difference in running technique needs correcting.

Review your training approach

Your running performance and injury risk are influenced by more than biomechanics alone. We'll discuss relevant aspects of your training, including weekly mileage, changes in distance or intensity, recovery and how your body is responding to your current programme. Where appropriate, we'll suggest training adjustments to help you build consistency, manage your training load and progress towards your goals.

Your personalised Runner's MOT Action Plan

The most valuable part of your Runner's MOT is knowing what to do with the information.

Following your assessment, you'll receive a personalised Runner's MOT Action Plan with practical recommendations based on your findings.

Your plan may include:

Biomechanics
Areas of your running technique worth exploring or refining.
Joint range and mobility
Relevant restrictions and suggested mobility work.
Strength
Targeted exercises to address identified weaknesses or improve capacity.
Movement control
Exercises and cues to develop coordination and control where needed.
Running technique
Key observations from your video gait analysis, with clear cues to practise where appropriate.
Training adjustments
Recommendations around mileage, intensity, progression and recovery to support your goals.
You'll know which areas to prioritise, why they matter and how to start working on them.

Your plan will be individual to you. We won't give you a long list of exercises for the sake of it. We'll focus on the changes most relevant to your assessment and your running ambitions.

Who is a Runner's MOT for?

A Runner's MOT is suitable for runners at different stages of their running journey.

It could be right for you if you:

  • Are new to running and want to build a good foundation.
  • Are increasing your mileage or training for a race.
  • Want to improve your running performance or work towards a personal best.
  • Have returned to running following an injury or period away from training.
  • Experience recurring niggles and want to understand whether any modifiable factors may be contributing.
  • Want to review your running technique through video gait analysis.
  • Are running comfortably and want to take a proactive approach to maintaining your running.
  • Want a clearer understanding of your strengths and areas for improvement.

You don't need to be an elite athlete or an experienced marathon runner. The assessment is tailored to your level, your body and what you want to achieve.

Not a runner? Our Movement MOT looks at your mobility, strength, balance and movement control for everyday life and other sports.
